I don't quite remember what we had when I was younger than 5, but I used them whenever I was allowed. We had an Atari, a Commodore 64, and two computers that were locked away that, for me, were nothing but vehicles for games like Zork, King's Quest, even just Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing.
But the first PCs and consoles I knew well were our NES and an IBM from the 80286 days. I took that 286 apart when I was 5, couldn't figure out how to put it back together (got in a bit of hot water for that since nobody else in the house knew how either), and I've been hooked ever since.
Anyone else remember the days when a game like King's Quest had Hollywood composers, and people were amazed by things like sound cards and the ability to use a mouse? These were the pinnacle of technical achievement! Makes you wonder what we'll think 20 or 30 years from now of how uncommonly giddy people are getting over ray tracing and haptic feedback.
