Cabin in the Woods (2011) is a must for any horror fan. If you've watched a lot of horrors you'll love the references, if you haven't watched a lot, most will miss you, but you'll still have a good time.

Babadook

I went in to Babadook with no expectation and really enjoyed it. Some horror films are "good for a horror film" whereas I thought Babadook was just good, horror or otherwise.

Define “good”.
Some of my favourites (Martyrs, Inside, Ghostland) are amazing films, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend them to anyone.

I do always recommend Sinister for mainstream films.
Recently, Tailgate and Two Heads a creek are a couple of lesser knowns that might go down well.
Then Possessor, if you’re into weird body horror.

Martyrs is insanely good but definitely not an easy watch for a first time viewer to it.

I’m not sure what kind of horror you’re looking for, since there are so many subgenres. If you’re into psychological horror, I’d recommend the Lucifer Valentine films—like the Slaughtered Vomit Dolls series or Black Metal Veins. But if you’re looking for something more well-known that still falls into the psychological and body horror category—which is my personal favorite—then Titane is a really solid choice.
