Hi all,
Just a quick post to let you know about some alterations and investigations we've done over the past few days.
As many of you will be aware, certain game saves have been leeched from here, and posted to another site. It's done by the same douche fuck each time - you probably all know who it is and what site, but I'm opting not to name either the member in question, or the site. We don't want bad blood with the site, our only issue is with the guy causing this trouble.
We discovered there was a flaw in a certain part of the site that resulted in what should have been hidden URLs no longer being hidden (it wasn't covered by the plugin we use). We were not aware of this until around four days ago. On that day, we discussed how we go about patching it - do we disable that area of the site, or do we hide links? Or, do we take an alternative route?
We opted for the latter.
All links within the flawed section of the site are now automatically replaced by a fake URL - for a download that simply doesn't work. We chose this route as we discovered the person responsible was scraping the URL and automatically posting the leeched content on the other site immediately. Meaning, if he didn't notice (which unfortunately, he seemed to) that all content he copied over would also include a completely fake download link.
This means that as far as we're aware, the only way to gain access to your hidden content is, as it should be, by liking it.
He's now banned my account over on that site, probably because he wants to feel some kind of power and control missing from his real life. Maybe he has a thing for me. Perhaps he wasn't loved as a child. We'll never know.
If this douche-fuck decides to, he could make an account and like your content, and he will still have the ability to leech it. Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do about that without impacting genuine users, which we don't want to do. However, likes are permanent, and they also leave a timestamped log, meaning if he does do this, we will find him and remove his access to the site.
We are working on a better solution for the hide system that we'll hopefully share with you soon.
In the meantime, if you have any suggestions for the hide system, let us know.
Hopefully this is the end of his antics, but I very much doubt it.
