The game begins in England in 1754, where you play as Haytham Kenway, a skilled Assassin-like character who is actually a Templar.
Haytham travels to the American colonies with a mission to find a mysterious woman connected to an important First Civilization artifact. After arriving in Boston, he and his companions begin searching for the artifact while dealing with the colonial conflict between the British and the colonists.
Haytham eventually meets Ziio, a Native American woman, and becomes involved with her tribe. He learns that she knows the location of the artifact he is looking for. Their relationship develops, but Haytham's true motives eventually become clear.
The intro ends with the story jumping forward in time. You discover that Haytham and Ziio's son is Ratonhnhaké:ton, who later becomes known as Connor, the main protagonist of Assassin's Creed III.
