The save worked perfectly!
Just remembering that for you to play in co-op all players need to have the same progress in their campaigns, that is, only the last mission needs to be missing to unlock the trophy, otherwise only the player, using this save, will unlock the trophy.

Oh yes, I played it solo except for the last mission which is a bit harder, so after making the save I invited a friend over hoping that the trophy would pop for both of us, but it only popped for me. thanks for reminding me :)
